Publication Spotlight: Hair Harassment - a Disturbing Trend in Schools
It was a pleasure to hear that my article entitled, Hair Harassment in Urban Schools and How it Shapes the Physical Activity of Black Adolescent Girls, was accepted for publication in The Urban Review this week. This topic is particularly timely as news of hair harassment in schools has a become a disturbing trend.
For many, hair is not just hair. Rather it is a connection to their culture, a form of expression, and a symbol of their personal values. My article argues that hair harassment should be treated the same way as sexual harassment, or school harassment (bullying), and provides recommendations for educators and school policy makers to take action and address this concern. Many thanks to The Urban Review for seeing the need for this relevant topic.
